Maintaining your air conditioning unit on a regular basis will keep it working efficiently and help you save money on expensive utility bills. One of the most important times of the year to service the AC unit is spring. At Bryan & Bryan Inspections, we recommend following these eight steps for an efficient and cost-effective air conditioning unit.
5. Check Duct Work
Duct work can make or break an air conditioning system. If there are holes, leaks, or other damage within the airways, this can lead to an inefficient system that is costing you more energy to operate. Inspect the duct work for any wear and tear, or hire an HVAC expert to inspect it on your behalf.
6. Adjust Refrigerant Levels
The next step is to check the refrigerant levels. If there is too little or too much in the system, it can result in an ineffective air conditioning unit and a warmer house during the hot summer months. Check the owner’s manual to find out how much refrigerant your air conditioning unit needs. You also may want to evaluate the insulation of the refrigerant lines and replace them if they are worn or damaged.
7. Secure Electrical Connections
Part of maintaining your AC unit is checking that all the electrical connections are secure. Sometimes tightening the connections is all it takes to keep the unit working smoothly. Plus, you’ll prevent any kind of safety hazards by ensuring the electrical work is in premium condition.
8. Schedule an Inspection
To make sure your entire AC system is working at its best, schedule a residential inspection. Our team of home inspectors is well-educated and very experienced in the entire inspection process including evaluating the HVAC system.
